7 Supplies You Need for a Safe and Organised Move

There is no doubt that preparing for a move can be quite stressful, but there are ways to improve the process, make it easier, and thoroughly organized.

For instance, researching packing strategies or techniques online can ensure that all your belongings will be safe during the transport and unpacking in your new home a breeze. Likewise, having the best packing and storage supplies on hand will allow you to distribute packing tasks among the members of your family so you all can get the packing done much faster.

And speaking of packing and moving supplies, rounded up below are seven must-haves. These supplies will not only keep packing as organized as possible but also ensure the quality of your belongings while you are moving them from one place to another.

1. Boxes of different sizes and shapes

Purchase new boxes for your move and choose the sizes and shapes carefully. If you will be bringing with you a large collection of porcelain dishes and crystal drinking glasses, invest in a couple of dish barrel boxes. These boxes will allow you to wrap breakables individually and store them separately to prevent contact with each other.

Boxes are the best containers for most of your belongings. Their shape and material will allow you to pack more items. Plus, you can stack them on top of each other so you can maximize the space in the moving truck. It is worth mentioning, too, that boxes are much easier to move around compared to other containers. They fit well into trolleys and their shape doesn’t shift despite what’s in them.

2. Pens and labels

Labeling is crucial in keeping packing and moving organized. You want to make sure that you know the contents of every box and there are instructions on the box on how to properly handle it to prevent damage to your possessions.

If you want to further streamline the moving process, you may even indicate on the box where it should go into the new house. This way, removalists can bring the boxes directly to the room where they need to go.

3. Packing tape

You will need rolls of packing tape for wrapping individual items and firmly securing the boxes so they do not break open when they are moved. Buy several rolls to ensure you won’t have to rush to a supply store when you realize you need more in the middle of packing.

4. Bubble wrap

You can use this in different ways for the move. You can cover bannisters and wall edges with these to prevent scrapes and scratches. And, of course, you can use bubble wrap to provide cushioning for delicate items that you need to pack. Bubble wrap can also serve as a filler for boxes with still a lot of room in them so the items don’t move around and possibly scratch each other or break.

5. Cutters or scissors

You will need box cutters and/or scissors to cut tape, ropes, and wraps, as well as to make size adjustments to your boxes. Be sure to have sharp ones on hand to be able to pack quickly and efficiently.

6. Different kinds of plastic bags

These range from small resealable bags for nuts and bolts and nails to big garbage bags to pack clothes on hangers.

Furniture removals experts advise taping the small resealable bags with the screws and small parts to the furniture or appliance they belong with. Also, these plastic bags are perfect for any items you own that may leak such as your bath and hygiene products, as well as those belongings that are not necessarily clean that you need to put in the same box with other items.

As for the big garbage bags, they are not only perfect for the quick packing of clothes on hangers, you can also use them for the items that you may want to give away before the move. They can also serve their original purpose once you have moved into your new place, and be used as garbage bags.

7. Moving blankets and/or sliders

These are absolute must-haves if you have pricey furniture, decor, and appliances. The blankets will keep dust off of your belongings and they also provide cushioning to prevent scratches or scrapes on big ticket items while moving.

Moving blankets can also be used to help slide heavy items around. Placing them under the heavy furniture you need to move will protect your floors. If you do not want to use moving blankets, invest in sliders instead. These will make pushing and pulling big and heavy pieces such as armoires, dish cabinets, and dining tables safer and less physically strenuous.

Pack and move efficiently with the right supplies

Every one of these items serves a very special purpose in creating a seamless process for the move. So, do not hesitate in including them in your moving budget, and be sure to purchase enough of them to ensure all your packing and moving needs are covered.
